STEM Teaching and Learning Community (STEM-TLC)
Cultivating departmental leaders to support evidence-based, data-informed teaching in introductory STEM courses
The purpose of the STEM Teaching and Learning Community (STEM-TLC) is to cultivate departmental pedagogical leaders who provide mutual support for introductory STEM instructors in integrating and improving evidence-based teaching practices through data-informed pedagogical decision making.
Overview
There are two main components to the learning community: 1) faculty leads meet bimonthly with program facilitators, and 2) faculty leads host events for the UVA STEM community. Three different groups of individuals engage with STEM-TLC.
- Program facilitators support faculty leads’ goals, manage logistics, and serve as thought partners.
- Faculty leads serve as pedagogical leaders in their departments and the STEM education community. They:
- attend bimonthly meetings
- develop and implement one event
- disseminate lessons learned
- STEM instructors build community in and across departments and participate in faculty lead events.
