Course Design Institute

Registration & Payment

Applications are closed for our Summer 2024 session.

Payment Details

  • Once you are accepted into CDI, the CTE will contact you to complete a brief registration form. Registration only applies to accepted participants and is separate from the application process.

  • You will have until April 26 to submit the $900 payment through the CTE's payment portal. You will need to select 'Course Design Institute' from the dropdown list.

  • Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel and lodging (see this page for hotel suggestions).

  • The CTE provides scholarships to full-time faculty who are not yet eligible for the Education Benefit.

  • Up to five UVA graduate students may be accepted into CDI with expenses covered by CTE; this is contingent upon space and funding availability.

Using UVA's Education Benefit

CDI qualifies for UVA's Education Benefit through HR. Funding requests are submitted directly by the employee to UVA HR through Workday.

  • Full-time academic and Medical Center employees who have been employed at UVA for at least 12 months have $2,000 per calendar year available for professional development.

  • Faculty who are not eligible for Education Benefit funding may qualify for a needs-based scholarship through the CTE, but we require written proof that the funding request was denied by HR.

    • The CTE requires that you apply for the Education Benefit even if you think you will not qualify.

  • UVA HR requires documentation of program completion for education benefit funds used for professional development. HR will require individuals who do not provide documentation of program completion to repay their education benefit funds.

  • The CTE provides proof of program completion to participants who miss no more than one day of the institute and complete all work associated with the program.

  • For additional details about the Education Benefit program, please see UVA HR's website.

Refund Policy

  • Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE).

  • Credit card refunds are required to be made to the credit card account where the charge originated (not a pay voucher).

  • A full refund will be given if the CTE receives your written cancellation at least two weeks prior to the start of the program.

  • A 50% refund will be given if the CTE receives your written cancellation with less than two weeks remaining until the start of the program. After the program has begun, no refunds will be given.
