How to Apply
Our Summer 2026 session is scheduled for May 18-22 in Charlottesville, VA.
Instructors at UVA and other institutions are invited to apply to CDI.
The cost to attend is $1350 and, for UVA participants, can be covered through the Education Benefit program. The payment deadline is May 2.
The CTE provides scholarships to full-time faculty who are not yet eligible for the Education Benefit. A few graduate students and post-doctoral scholars may be accepted into the program with expenses covered by the CTE, contingent upon space and funding availability.

Course Information
Statement of Interest: Briefly describe why you are interested in designing/redesigning a course during CDI. Please draw on one or more of the questions below (whichever questions appeal to you most) to guide your response.
We estimate you’ll spend 10-15 minutes and write roughly 200-400 words or 1-3 paragraphs. These guidelines are not requirements; they are meant to provide transparency about expected workload. We accept shorter or longer responses. We use responses not to accept or reject applicants, but to better understand your motivations and goals (you can read about the CTE’s selection criteria in our FAQs).
- What are your goals for student learning and engagement?
- How will your course help students achieve those goals?
- What classroom environment would you like to cultivate in your (re)design?
- How will (re)designing your course help you support students’ well-being? Your own well-being?
- If you are redesigning an existing course, what would you like to accomplish with your redesign?
- Are there aspects of your course that you expect will be particularly difficult to design?
