Teaching for Student Success: Lessons Learned from Research

As part of our CTE Speaker Series, this interactive seminar with Dr. Tracie Addy will involve a survey of several of research findings related to teaching for student success. Highlights will include: the identification of individual and institutional challenges and opportunities, approaches that instructors report implementing to positively impact student learning, what students indicate helps them thrive in their courses, the nuanced impacts of generative AI on student success, specific teaching practices linked to student sense of belonging in classroom studies, and data-driven approaches that encourage instructor reflection and action planning on student success. Like an unfolding story, this seminar will expose many layers of teaching for student success.

Tracie Marcella Addy, PhD, MPhil is an accomplished academic leader in higher education. She received her BS from Duke University, MPhil from Yale University, and PhD from North Carolina State University. She is a published scholar of teaching and learning and educational development. Her two main scholarly areas of focus include learner-centered teaching practices and the work of centers for teaching and learning. 

She is the lead author of the books What Inclusive Instructors Do: Principles and Practices for Excellence in College Teaching (2021) and Enhancing Inclusive Instruction: Student Perspectives and Practical Approaches for Advancing Equity in Higher Education (2024). Her next book for which she is a co-author is tentatively titled Educational Development in the Age of Change and is anticipated to be released in 2026 by Johns Hopkins University Press.
