Biography

Peter Johannessen is an Assistant Professor of Public Policy in the Batten School and a CTE Faculty Fellow for 2023-2024. As a Fellow, he is working to support instructors in large-enrollment courses, with an emphasis on promoting a sense of belonging for all students.

His research interests include democratic representation, with projects exploring local politics in Brazil and disability voting rights in the Americas. At the Batten School, Peter teaches a range of courses, including Batten’s large introductory course (Introduction to Public Policy), two upper-level undergraduate courses (Institutional and Political Context of Public Policy and Politics of Development), and a graduate short course (Data Visualization in R).

Peter received his PhD in Politics and Social Policy from Princeton University, and his BA in Political Science and History from the University of Vermont.
