Faculty AI Guides
Advancing the understanding of generative AI across Grounds
The Faculty AI Guides is an initiative of the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and CTE designed to advance the understanding of generative AI across Grounds and to empower faculty to make informed and intentional decisions about the role of generative AI in their teaching.
The widespread availability of generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Midjourney, among many others, poses a set of challenges and opportunities to faculty and other instructors in higher education. How should our teaching goals change in light of these tools? When can AI enhance student learning and when does it undercut student learning? What role should AI literacy have in our curricula?
The 2024-2025 cohort of Faculty AI Guides consists of 51 faculty from departments and schools across Grounds. They are actively exploring the questions above in their own teaching contexts, and they are sharing what they learn with colleagues in their disciplines and areas through individual and informal consultations as well as workshops, department presentations, and lunch-and-learns.
The Faculty AI Guides participated in a two-day institute on AI and teaching in August, and they meet monthly in small teams to learn from and with each other. CTE faculty and staff support the AI Guides with resources and advice as the Guides explore this rapidly changing landscape.
