Workshop

Teaching as a Graduate Student

TAGS is a two-part, hybrid learning experience. Participants complete on-demand, online modules ahead of attending in-person, interactive workshops offered twice a year.

Our next live sessions are scheduled for Thursday, August 18, 2022. During these 90-minute sessions, small groups of new GTAs will meet with an experienced facilitator to discuss the online material, ask questions, and plan effective approaches to common teaching scenarios. Two "sections" of the interactive session will be offered; participants should register for either the morning or afternoon time slot. We will also have a live performance by UVA Acts and provide lunch, in between the two session time slots to accommodate all participants.

The schedule on August 18 is as follows:

  • 10:00-11:30 AM: Interactive sessions, time slot 1

  • 11:45 AM-12:30 PM: UVA Acts performance

  • 12:30-1:00 PM: Lunch

  • 1:15-2:45 PM: Interactive sessions, time slot 2

Depending on demand, a remote option may also be available for those GTAs who can’t attend in person.

Participants in the live sessions should have previously completed the online modules. Please note that the online content remains available to everyone, regardless of their ability to attend the live sessions, but for full TAGS participation, we recommend both.
