Community Engagement & Service Learning: Community-Engaged Systems Engineering Course with Pete Alonzi & SYS 4054 Students

Student teams from SYS 4054, taught by Pete Alonzi, will present findings from a year-long, community-engaged capstone focused on local criminal justice challenges. Students in “Consulting for the local Charlottesville/Albemarle Criminal Justice System” met with the region’s criminal justice planner, Matt Vitale, on a weekly basis, working with him to study real problems facing the local criminal justice system.

Attend to hear concrete examples of student-driven projects, learn how sustained community partnerships shape course design, and discuss practical ways to integrate similar, justice-oriented, data-informed work into your own teaching. Pete Alonzi and the student presenters will be available for Q&A and collaboration ideas.

Use registration link to RSVP for in-person or Zoom.

Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
