Learning Community
AI-Aware Assignment Design
How can we support student learning when generative AI tools and technologies are ubiquitous? How can we design assignments and activities for our students that minimize cognitive offloading to AI and maximize learning? How can we help students recognize when to avoid the use of AI--and when and how to use it effectively and ethically in their studies and careers?
This practice-focused learning community will provide a space for UVA instructors to swap assignment ideas and examples for teaching with, without, and about generative AI. Each session will focus on a different approach to AI-aware assignment design (e.g. "green light" assignments, moving assignments into the classroom, assignments for teaching critical AI literacy), with participants sharing and discussing examples of that approach.
