Biography

Born and raised in Germany, Dorothe Bach joined the Center for Teaching Excellence in 2002. As associate director, Dorothe delivers a variety of educational development programs and supports teaching innovation. Her programmatic research interests cover a broad range of topics from course design to student-faculty partnerships, faculty learning communities, and program assessment. Her current pedagogical interests focus on equitable teaching practices, contemplative pedagogy, and embodied cognition. She currently teaches an elective undergraduate course Restoring our Relationships with Nature in UVA’s Environmental Thought and Practice Program. Dorothe’s published work has appeared in the International Journal for Academic Development; International Journal for Students as Partners; International Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Society; Journal for Contemplative Inquiry; Journal on Excellence in College Teaching; Journal of Research in Innovative Teaching & Learning; The Journal of Faculty Development; and To Improve the Academy. Dorothe regularly presents nationally and internationally and has been an invited workshop leader and consultant on four continents. For her teaching and educational development work, she has received several awards.
