Facilitating Meaningful In-Class Discussions

Leading discussion is a popular activity in college classrooms, especially when you are a TA. But discussions don’t just automatically or magically go well. So how can we ensure this time is meaningful and well-spent? This workshop will introduce participants to some common challenges and pitfalls of discussion, as well as ways of preempting or addressing them in the moment. We will also make time to explore participants’ own identities, experiences, and wonderings, in relation to in-class discussions.
