2.X: How AI Has Changed the Classroom: Fostering Trust and Transparency with Students

How can we navigate students' use of generative AI in the classroom while fostering trust and transparency? What strategies can we use to spark meaningful conversations with students about AI's role in their learning?

Join us for an engaging two-day workshop designed to support instructors in effectively communicating with their students about generative AI, from course policies and assignments to open dialogues in the classroom. This workshop has been co-developed with a team of undergraduate students from a variety of disciplines to illuminate their unique perspectives. In addition to interactive sessions, you’ll have the chance to consult with these undergraduates, who will share their insights and experiences with generative AI.

Through this workshop, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Articulate an AI course policy aligned with your values and goals for student learning
  • Reflect on the role that you want generative AI to play in your students' learning
  • Identify strategies for transparently communicating with students about appropriate AI use
  • Recognize opportunities for collaboration and co-creation with students
  • Plan for at least one AI conversation with your students

Tailored for instructors at all levels of AI experience, this workshop will emphasize leveraging student voices and cultivating an inclusive and collaborative learning environment. With student consultations, independent work, and peer feedback, you will leave with valuable insights and concrete approaches that you can apply to your instruction, this semester and in the future. Together, we’ll work to reframe generative AI from a challenge into an opportunity to enrich teaching and learning.
