UVA is launching a new website dedicated to showcasing learning technologies that support your teaching and students’ learning. Learning Tech connects pedagogy with technology, presenting a dynamic catalog of available tools with a special focus on their potential value for teaching and learning. As the hub evolves, we will highlight newly acquired technologies, pilot opportunities, instructor and staff testimonials, and resources for getting help.

Some of the newest tools that are now widely available and highlighted on the site include:

  • Digication: Helps students easily create media-rich ePortfolios for individual or group projects, or for professional development.

  • Gradescope: Helps you grade exams, problem sets, and other assignments more efficiently by building intuitive, dynamic rubrics as you work.

  • Hypothesis: Allows students to add multiple types of annotations to digital texts to provide context, offer insights, ask and answer questions, and more.

  • MATLAB Grader: Enables you to post and evaluate programming assignments, with options for autograding, contextual feedback, and detailed analytics.

  • Peerceptiv: Supports student growth through a validated cycle of peer and personal assessment on written assignments.

  • Poll Everywhere: Allows you to engage students through a variety of questions and polls, display dynamic results as responses are entered, and export results to your gradebook.

  • VoiceThread: Encourages conversations and supports feedback mechanisms by allowing you and your students to add audiovisual or textual comments to posted content.

Other learning technologies you have easy access to include Confluence, Flipgrid, iClicker, iRubric, Kaltura, NowComment, Panopto, Piazza, Qualtrics, SensusAccess, UVA Box, WordPress, and Zoom. Many tools are available as integrations within the University’s learning management systems, allowing you to add them to course sites in Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, or UVACollab. More information on all these tools will be available on the site.

The Center for Teaching Excellence and Matthew Burgess, the Center’s Learning Technology Specialist, are proud to lead the development of Learning Tech in partnership with several units across Grounds, including the Learning Design & Technology Group, UVACollab Applications Group, and ITS, and with the Journey Group design agency. The project is made possible with generous support from the Offices of the Executive Vice President and Provost and Chief Information Officer.
