The Center for Teaching Excellence currently has an opening for an Assistant Director of Engineering Education Initiatives to be embedded in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). The individual will join an internationally renowned and dynamic educational development center committed to promoting the academic professional excellence of UVA faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate student instructors. The incumbent will simultaneously be embedded in a world-class school of engineering, with cutting-edge research and a deep commitment to instructional excellence. The Assistant Director will support the development of high-impact instructional development activities in SEAS at all educational levels—undergraduate, graduate, and continuing professional education.
This is an Academic General Faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-ineligible). This is a full-time, 12-month appointment, with reappointment contingent upon the availability of funds. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The expected start date is August 2019.
We are also in need of a graduate student who can support our SoTL Scholars program by implementing and analyzing data on education research projects at UVA. The person would be responsible for coordinating and managing data collection (observations, surveys, interviews); conducting observations and making site visits as needed (travel will be paid for); attending SoTL scholars meetings and meeting regularly with the research team; and setting up and leading qualitative interviews and focus groups with faculty and students.
Applicants must be registered as a full-time UVA graduate student in order to be considered. This 2019-2020 academic year position starts in August and requires a commitment of 5-10 hours/week on average. The hours and work location are flexible. The starting wage is $18/hour. Work through the summer and following academic year may be available.
