Academy members attending the inaugural reception, August 18, 2011.

Members of the University Academy of Teaching enrich and enhance the University of Virginia’s academic mission by sharing their teaching expertise and experience with faculty members and/or graduate teaching assistant colleagues. The Academy of Teaching is action-oriented; members are expected to contribute to the Academy’s mission on an on-going basis. Members make a difference to the teaching community through the Academy’s Teaching Partnerships, Academy Associate program, Grants for Learning, the Academy’s annual retreat, service on the Academy’s Executive Board, or by other activities in response to the Academy’s mission.

Membership in the University Academy of Teaching is open to all faculty members at the University of Virginia. In most cases, applicants will have had six or more years of teaching experience. Recognition as an Emeritus Academy Member is possible for retiring Academy members who remain active in Academy affairs and programs. Eligible University members may be nominated, or may self-nominate, in April and May of each year. For details on the nominating process, please visit: Becoming a Member of the University Academy of Teaching.
