Arts & Sciences Center for Instructional Technology (ASCIT) ASCIT staff are available to assist faculty with instructional design and delivery, instructional applications development, integration of technology in teaching and research, and “proof of concept” development for grant applications.
Arts & Sciences New Learning Technologies Committee Serves to establish and promote technology resources available to faculty and students and to explore new ways of integrating technologies to support teaching and research.
Arts & Sciences Technology Strategies Support teaching excellence in the College by providing an open and collaborative forum for engaging faculty in the exploration, testing, adoption and integration of innovative pedagogies and learning technologies into the design and delivery of their courses.
Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (CASTL-HE) Partners with academic programs across the University of Virginia to apply the principles of evidence-based assessment to the relationship between college teaching and pedagogy and student learning outcomes.
Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at UVa UVa is pioneering this new world through its recently-announced partnership with Coursera to offer courses online.
Office of Medical Education Support The Educational Technology group within the Office of Medical Education supports the innovative use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
Robertson Media Center and Digital Media Lab (DML) Serves as a gateway to emerging media technologies for UVa faculty and students, while better accommodating world-class digital collaboration and scholarship.
Scholars’ Lab Focus on the digital humanities, geospatial information, and scholarly making and building at the intersection of the digital and physical worlds.
Sciences, Humanities & Arts Network of Technological Initiatives (SHANTI) The mission of SHANTI is to promote a culture of innovation and excellence in humanities, sciences and arts within the academic life of the University of Virginia.
Teaching Resource Center A pan-University center for collegial community and committed conversation about teaching at all levels and in all academic disciplines.
Teaching + Technology Initiative (TTI) The TTI program ran from 1995-2009. The site is an active archive showing the structure of the TTI program and the range of projects it supported.
Teaching + Technology Support Partners (TTSP)  Provides support and enriched training to graduate students who work with faculty in their departments to foster integration of technology and innovation in teaching.
UVaCollab The centrally-supported online collaboration and learning environment (CLE) at the University of Virginia.
UVa Alliance for Computational Science and Engineering Resources (UVACSE) To transform computational research across Grounds.

Relevant UVA Conferences, Summits, & Workshop Series

Name Description
August Teaching Workshop Since 1990, thousands of faculty members and teaching assistants new to the University of Virginia have had their paths smoothed and their concerns addressed at the August Teaching Workshop. These two half-days, sponsored by the Teaching Resource Center and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Development, engage colleagues from around the University in a range of interactive workshops.
Course Design Institute During the Course Design Institute, an interdisciplinary group of instructors will spend five days designing or substantially redesigning courses so that they promote significant, long-term learning.
Innovation in Pedagogy Summit A day long event highlighting faculty innovation in their pedagogical practices.  Topics include face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning.
Teaching with Technology Fair Designed for UVa faculty, the Teaching with Technology Fair is a free annual event featuring success stories of faculty integrating teaching and technology. Gain strategies for maximizing technology in your teaching & research, learn about tech tools available for your courses, and share ideas with fellow instructors at workshops and demos!

Name Description
Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy VT’s annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy is focused on higher education teaching excellence and the scholarship of teaching and learning. The conference showcases the best pedagogical practice and research in higher education today.
Online Learning Summit The VCU Online Learning Summit is organized by the Center for Teaching Excellence at Virginia Commonwealth University. This regional conference serves as a multi-disciplinary forum for the discussion and exchange of information on the research, development, and applications of all topics related to teaching and learning online.
OpenVA The Open and Digital Learning Resources Conference is an initiative of the Office of Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), the Virginia Community College System, and a number of partner institutions.

Sloan-Consortium (Sloan-C) An organization focused on helping institutions and individual educators improve the quality, scale, and breadth of online education.
New Media Consortium (NMC) An international not-for-profit consortium of learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies.
Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) An international, not-for-profit, educational organization with the mission of advancing Information Technology in Education and E-Learning research, development, learning, and its practical application.
Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) An international, educational, and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of the knowledge, theory and quality of learning and teaching at all levels with information technology.

United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA)  Serves the distance learning community by providing advocacy, information, networking and opportunity.
