This is by far the best teaching workshop I have ever attended. The content was interesting and the instructors really practiced what they preached with respect to learning techniques. (2011)
Intense, demanding, but extremely productive. I worked harder and faster than I would have on my own. I also loved the environment—being surrounded by people who care about and love teaching was inspiring. (2012)
This [Institute] allowed me to think deeply about the reasons for teaching my classes—and ultimately, the reasons I became a teacher. (2010)
The highlight for me was seeing things come together for so many eager, hardworking and dedicated lovers of learning. (2014)
The CDI was extremely helpful in guiding me through some key elements of course design, allowing me to design a course that I’m excited about teaching and one that I hope students will be excited to take. (2013)
The institute gave me life! And it totally changed my approach to course design and teaching. (2012)
In two words: [the CDI experience was] life-altering. This may seem overblown, but it is 100% true. I came in thinking I had a handle on my course, but realized very soon I needed to go back to the drawing board. The result is exponentially improved. (2011)
[The Institute] has given me tools to help me better fulfill my learning goals, keep my teaching fresh, effective & interesting. (2008)
I emerged from the Institute having a much richer sense of the possibilities and the types of bonds that can be forged between my students and the subjects they study. (2008)
I feel enriched, motivated, and empowered. There is now no excuse for me to be a mediocre teacher given the resources I’ve gotten from CDI. (2012)
Incredible! Every day I left feeling exhausted, but in a wonderful way. I had many new insights and really enjoyed the community that was created throughout the week. (2013)
It was so interesting to learn from other participants in other fields, and the inherent interdisciplinarity of the [Institute] is very stimulating! (2008)
I really enjoyed engaging in this intensive, intellectual endeavor of thinking about learning and how to actually create learning experiences, in this diverse community of academicians. (2013)
[A]nyone from novice to experienced teachers would benefit from attending. (2010)
Outstanding. I was totally impressed by presenters that MODELED learning. I came to the Institute with a background in K-12 education, and will admit I was cynical about the ability of university professors to approach student-centered learning with any real understanding. I was delightfully wrong. (2014)
What have students said about their experience in CDI-designed courses?
This class has given me a completely different perception of the world around me. It has taught me a new way to view everything I encounter.
This class really made me think in ways I never thought I would have and opened my eyes to different kinds of learning that, gasp, one might even begin to call fun.
