Take It or Leave It: AI and Digital Innovation
Generative AI is an oracle, a threat to humanity, a productivity tool, a cheating machine, an assistive technology, and a producer of slop. Generative AI is a lot of things, depending on whom you ask. But what should generative AI be in online education? In this lively session, we'll present a number of "hot takes" about generative AI and online learning to a panel of faculty. For each point of view, we’ll ask each panelist if they "take it" (that is, generally agree with the perspective) or "leave it" (generally disagree). Through this artificial binary, we’ll discuss the complexities of adapting our online teaching to a world with AI.
This discussion will be moderated by Derek Bruff, CTE Associate Director. Our panelists are:
- Michelle Beavers, associate professor and coordinator, Administration and Supervision Program
- Leo Lo, dean of libraries and university librarian, advisor to the provost on AI literacy, and professor of education
- Sara McClellan, assistant professor of professional studies and program coordinator, Public Administration Certificate Program
