2025 Innovations in Pedagogy Summit

Can the sentimental be instrumental in teaching and learning? Emotions play a major role in how we are motivated to perform tasks and how we respond to situations. And because they are inextricable facets of the human experience, emotions are ever present in our classrooms. Our 12th Annual Innovations in Pedagogy Summit invites you to consider what roles emotions play in teaching and learning through our theme of Teaching Between the Heart and Hustle.

The Summit will kick off with our keynote speaker Sarah Rose Cavanagh, a psychologist, professor, and the Senior Associate Director for Teaching and Learning at Simmons University. In her presentation titled "The Joy of Teaching: Cultivating Student and Faculty Well-being," she will present research from both the science of well-being and the study of learning to argue that teaching can (and should) be a joy, and share practical ways that instructors and institutions can support faculty and student well-being.

Following the keynote, there will be interactive sessions and presentations by our colleagues at UVA and beyond. View the schedule-at-a-glance; the full schedule of events will be announced soon! Lunch will be provided, along with coffee and tea throughout the day.

This event is cosponsored by the School of Education and Human Development.
