Postdoctoral Research Associate
The following represents Karen’s bio when left the CTE in 2017.
Karen Connors joined the Center for Teaching Excellence in 2015. As the Postdoctoral Research Associate, Karen assesses CTE programmatic efforts, particularly the Ignite program for faculty new to UVa. Karen serves as the chair for the Innovation in Pedagogy Summit.
She has experience in college teaching, fundraising, event management, academic administration, residence life, and judicial affairs. Her doctoral research was grounded in motivation theory and focused on supervision practices for residence life supervisors as well as undergraduate student worker satisfaction. Karen has served as a graduate teaching assistant for a number of courses including Athletics in the University, Legal Aspects of College Administration, and Group Processes and Development.
With roots in Boston and Philadelphia, Karen obtained a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Penn State University. She began her career in education as a high school teacher in Baltimore City. Since 2007, Karen has worked and studied in higher education. She received a master’s degree from the University of Miami and a doctorate degree from the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education.
